J. Anthony Kraus brings a unique perspective to his writing, shaped by an unconventional path that spans military service and decades of storytelling. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist, stationed in Minot, North Dakota. It was an experience that left him with a deep understanding of systems, authority, and consequences.
After his military service, Kraus spent more than twenty years in advertising, working his way up from illustrator to Creative Director. That professional background sharpened his sense of satire and audience awareness. During this time, he became drawn to fiction, beginning with a screenplay about Bigfoot. He later wrote an early version of Go Xielje! but set it aside for years, returning to it only after continued practice, study, and a renewed creative focus. Inspired in part by Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein and classic Godzilla films, Kraus became interested in blending the monster genre with humor and social observation.

A darkly comic monster satire that begins with an alien creature crashing to Earth and quickly turns into a commentary on media hysteria, military incompetence, and humanity’s appetite for spectacle. As Xielje grows larger and deadlier, the story asks whether the real danger is the monster itself or the way people respond when disaster becomes entertainment.
A laugh-out-loud memoir told through outrageous true stories drawn from small-town America, family life, and encounters with animals that refuse to behave. With sharp observation and self-deprecating humor, J. Anthony Kraus turns everyday chaos into unforgettable moments that are equal parts absurd, nostalgic, and deeply relatable.
From laugh-out-loud moments to sharp, uncomfortable truths, readers are connecting with Jerry Kraus’s unique blend of satire, storytelling, and honesty. Here’s what they’re saying.
Fun read! Loved the world building and finding humor in how clueless both the government and the public can be in face of impending doom. Iffy on the romance but the monster made up for it! Go Xielje!
I laughed way more than I expected and then found myself thinking about it long after. Go Xielje! is hilarious, but it’s also smart and unsettling in the best way.
Don’t Kill the Raccoons feels like someone finally wrote down the weird thoughts we all have but never admit. Funny, honest, and painfully relatable.
Both books surprised me. One minute I’m laughing, the next I’m uncomfortable and that’s exactly why they work.
These books feel completely different on the surface, but they’re clearly written by the same mind.
